thank you lol…
i know saw Isnt That Deep but it does sincerely kind of annoy me to listen to people make criticisms about it that are mostly rooted in a misunderstanding of the premise. a particularly flagrant example of this is people not getting why john would take people who have suffered tragedies - i think adam rips on the fact that he takes a father who was suffering after the death of his son in III without getting that the whole point of the traps is that things can always get worse, and that things inevitably will get worse and you have to either lie down and die or decide to live with suffering. john survives his car accident not because life is beautiful and he’s suddenly over his wife’s brutal miscarriage and his cancer diagnosis but because he decides that living in pain is worth it.
masochism is the lesson hes trying to impart lol. theres certainly examples of people used in traps who are clearly opportunistic (the smoking janitor in VI) or who are receiving whats closer to just deserts than anything (most of V) but by and large the lesson is always this: life sucks and then you live
